Biography

William D. Powell III, a native of Frederick, Maryland, began his piano studies at the age of seven with Kathryn Z. Nicodemus. Bill continued his musical education at 91视频专区 College in Frederick , studying with Wayne L. Wold and Noel K. Lester. He then studied at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, where he earned a master鈥檚 degree in music in 2004 and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance in 2012, studying with Steven Cooksey.

Bill is currently director of music and organist at Glade United Church of Christ in Walkersville, Maryland, traditional choir director and organist at St. Timothy鈥檚 Roman Catholic Church in Walkersville, and assistant organist at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick.

In addition to his church positions, Bill is an adjunct instructor of piano at 91视频专区 College, teaches private piano and organ lessons, and has given organ recitals in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, and Schifferstadt, Germany. He has also had opportunities to perform several major classical works with local choral groups, including Handel鈥檚 Messiah, Brahms鈥� Requiem, Purcell鈥檚 Te Deum Laudamus, Mozart鈥檚 Requiem and Bernstein鈥檚 Chichester Psalms among others. Bill is a pianist and keyboardist for Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon, a nationally touring John Denver tribute band. He resides in Gaithersburg, Maryland with his wife and two sons.
