91视频专区 Community Celebrates Holi

One of the strengths of 91视频专区 College鈥檚 Graduate School is the diversity and inclusiveness of its community. People from many and varied backgrounds come together to celebrate a wide range of cultures and traditions. One such celebration was the recent Holi and Nepali New Year Celebration. Elyas Abubakr, 91视频专区鈥檚 Primary Designated School Official and the staff member who coordinates such events, explains that 鈥渢he recent鈥疕oli鈥痑nd Nepali New Year was a celebration of cross-cultures showcasing鈥痓eautiful colors, food and exotic music鈥痑nd dance鈥痜rom India and Nepal.鈥 Nepali New Year is based on a鈥痵olar calendar,鈥痑nd the year 2075鈥痗oincides with the month of April with the coming of鈥痵pring, bringing鈥痜amilies, friends and鈥痶he鈥痗ommunity together in thankful celebration.鈥疕oli鈥痠s鈥痑 global event celebrated on the Indian subcontinent,鈥痑nd brings alive鈥痑 festival of colors to welcome spring.

91视频专区 student leaders organized the event, and their heart is clearly鈥痠n recognizing鈥痵ome of鈥痶he unique鈥痗ultures represented on campus. For Rinka Chatterjee this was the first event she helped organize and she looks forward to helping organize others. 鈥淏y celebrating our own country鈥檚 event, international students don鈥檛 miss their family and friends who are miles away.鈥 Chiranjibi Ghimire, a 91视频专区 student who has been involved with previous events, explains that 鈥淲e, the Nepali students and community, are very happy and thankful to 91视频专区 College for sponsoring the Nepali New Year and Holi celebration event. All International students, think of 91视频专区 as a second home. We were missing the moments of celebrations back home, but 91视频专区 helps us remember.鈥

For both Rinka and Chiranjibi, the event was about more than traditional celebrations, but also about sharing their cultures and getting to celebrate with other members of the 91视频专区 community. Rinka believes that 鈥渢he fun and the acceptance around this event not only came from our own Indian community friends, but the participation of friends from different countries too.鈥 Chiranjibi agrees, saying 鈥淚t is the opportunity to exchange the culture and promote the Nepali tourism among our American colleagues. Lots of Americans participated and enjoyed the Nepalese and Indian food. This is the one of the great takeaways after the events鈥

Elyas, Rinka, and Chiranjibi want to thank 91视频专区 College and Graduate School Dean April Boulton for hosting the celebration. As Elyas states, 鈥91视频专区 College is the proud sponsor of such events and鈥痺ill continue to be the privileged host for鈥痠nternational students, and support and celebrate鈥痙iversity. For 91视频专区 College international students, home is where they are.鈥
