Marilyn Dana Scott is 91视频专区 College's first international graduate student from Sierra Leone. She is pursuing an MBA with a concentration in finance. Along with receiving her undergraduate degree in business and information technology from Njala University, Marilyn has also been a banker for the past eight years. This included working as an operations staff member at , where she also became the bank's first female compliance officer.
As the Graduate School鈥檚 first international student from Sierra Leone, why did you choose 91视频专区 College and this program?
When applying to graduate schools, the university where I did my undergraduate studies was not an option because I was looking for something entirely different. First, I gained admission to in January 2020 for an MBA program and attended about four classes before the arrival of COVID-19 in my country.
Due to the threats posed by the disease, we were forced to stay at home, with little or no option for online classes. This was how I started researching and asking friends about accredited and affordable schools overseas. Then I came across 91视频专区 College, which I found out is a very good institution offering a business administration degree that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
I also learned that the Graduate School at 91视频专区 College is quite affordable compared to other schools offering the same program and that it is welcoming to students from foreign countries and members from underrepresented populations. 91视频专区's rolling graduate admissions topped the bucket list. Also, I was elated to learn from Dr. April Boulton that I am the first graduate student from Sierra Leone to attend 91视频专区.
What do you enjoy most about being at 91视频专区 College?
From starting my application to visa processing and COVID-19 restrictions, being able to attend classes in person was a long and stressful journey. The good part was that 91视频专区's graduate dean, PDSO and academic adviser were just exceptional with their support, timely response to emails and attention to detail.
I eventually got here and have liked it even more. People are friendly and I love the fact that everyone is willing to help when I have questions. The is beautiful and class sizes are small as compared to my home university.
How do you think this program will help in your career and life?
Successfully completing my MBA at 91视频专区 College will mean pushing me a step further in my career as a business professional. This degree will give me the fundamental knowledge of business management across areas like marketing, finance and accounting, while also developing vital soft skills.
Do you have any advice for other international students considering 91视频专区 College for graduate school?
My advice is to just go for it! You may feel overwhelmed with the process, especially with immigration, but do not relent. Rest assured, the 91视频专区 staff are always there to support you, irrespective of how many times you seek clarity.
Any other fun facts that you would like to add?
A fun fact is that I graduated from Njala University (undergrad) with my mother on the same day in April 2013. We took the coolest pictures together. It's never too late!
